Grouville

Please note:- Notes and content should be checked against final delivery

Mr Constable, Ladies and Gentleman

  1. I can’t claim to be a Grouvillais but the Ozouf family did start their farming in Grouville and I do live just over the border.

  2. I was immensely proud that six years ago I topped your Grouville’s Senatorial Poll.

  3. I took that responsibility very seriously and worked hard to deliver on the promises I made.

  4. I delivered the island’s Competition Law; which banned cartels and price fixing.

  5. This has already saved consumers millions of pounds on phone calls, transport, lawyers scale fees and more.

  6. I pledged to do something about the unfair rates burden.

  7. I worked with the Constables and proposed the commercial Parish rate.

  8. As a result the unfair welfare burden has been assigned to pages of Temps Passé.

  9. I have always believed that a strong sustainable economy is the key to providing top quality Health and other public Services.

  10. For the last 3 years I have been the Minister responsible for our economy.

  11. Tourism, finance, fishing, e-commerce, overseeing the harbours and airports - I have lead a team and reformed Economic Development.

  12. In Tourism, putting Tourism and Harbours and Airports together – has delivered more passengers and we have seen the first new hotels opened for a generation

  13. The Tourism Industry is tough but with commitment I believe it has a positive future.

  14. I have worked with small businesses.

  15. I have worked hard to ensure on-line retailing businesses are safe from external threats.

  16. I’ve supported fishermen to sell more fish locally ... and importantly helped to win their dispute against Guernsey.

  17. Whilst the economy is not only about finance and needs to be sustainable - under my leadership the finance industry has also prospered.

  18. We all know there are storms hitting the financial markets, but our world-class industry, now we have diversified with new services and in new markets – we can and will weather the storms ahead.

  19. I have put a real new focus on skills.

  20. My aim is an island where everyone has the opportunity and encouragement to reach their full potential.

  21. Events matter too.

  22. The Battle of Flower’s future is now secure.

  23. More than that we have vibrant new events such as the Ice Rink at Christmas for families and tonight the opening of the new Branchage Film Festival.

  24. Ladies and Gentlemen these things don’t happen by accident.

  25. I am not one of those politicians you only hear from at election time.

  26. I hope I have earnt a reputation for getting things done: efficiency, sound thinking and hard work.

  27. I also believe in constructive politics.

  28. My vision has always been long term.

  29. I am not afraid of reform, change or from taking – where necessary - tough decisions.

  30. For example: You may recall the Broad Street project.

  31. Initially controversial, I had a vision and delivered it.

  32. Who would imagine St Helier without those town improvements?

  33. I’m told even – most of the taxi drivers wouldn’t go back.

  34. I do recognise the need for the States to listen more.

  35. I also recognise there are some tough challenges ahead.

  36. I am committed to keeping taxes as low as possible but also getting better value for money from taxes.

  37. The Comptroller and Auditor General has identified where savings can be made.

  38. I will commit to deliver these.

  39. In addition – I believe we can make better use of States property. Too many departments operating out of too many sites.

  40. In my own department I have a proven track record from the departments lead

  41. As a Senator you represent the whole island including Grouville.

  42. I know the Dolphin is not in Grouville and I hope you are as proud as I was when the States agreed to extend RAMSAR to your offshore reefs.

  43. If you want a candidate who has worked hard for Jersey with leadership, ability and a proven track record to get things done, then please consider me for one of your votes.
