St Mary

Mr Constable, Ladies and Gentlemen
  1. I was immensely proud that 6 years ago I topped the Senatorial St Mary’s poll.

  2. I took that responsibility sincerely and seriously and worked hard to deliver on the promises that I made.

  3. I delivered a competition law which has banned cartels and price fixing.

  4. This has resulted in lower prices in phone calls, transport, lawyer scale fees and other areas.

  5. I pledged to do something about the unfair rates burden across the Island and proposed the Island commercial parish rate.

  6. As a result unfair parish rates have been assigned to the pages of Temps Passe.

  7. I believe in a strong sustainable economy in providing top quality services.

  8. For the last 3 years I have discharged the duties of the Minister responsible for the Economy: Tourism, Fishing, Finance, E-Commerce overseeing Harbours and Airports.

  9. I have led a team and reformed Economic Development.

  10. Putting Tourism and Harbours and Airports together has delivered more passengers and we have seen the first new hotels open for a generation.

  11. I have supported fishermen and importantly helped them to win their dispute against Guernsey.

  12. Whilst the economy is not only finance under my stewardship finance has prospered

  13. We are all aware that there are storms hitting financial markets, but our world class industry with new services in new markets can and will weather the storms a head.

  14. I have put a new focus on skills

  15. My aim is an Island where everybody has the opportunity and encouragement to meet their full potential.

  16. Events matter too - the Battle of Flowers feature a secure - more than that we have seen vibrant new events such as the Ice Rink at Christmas and the opening of the Branchage Film Festival this week.

  17. Ladies and Gentlemen these things do not happen by accident

  18. I am not one of those politicians you only hear from at election time, I don’t make promises I can’t deliver.

  19. I hope that I have earnt a reputation for getting things done, efficiently, sound work and thinking.

  20. I believe in constructive politics.

  21. My vision has been long term I am not a failure of reform or where necessary take tough decisions.

  22. For example Broad Street - initially controversial - I had a vision and delivered it.

  23. Who would imagine town these days without these improvements.

  24. I am told even the taxi drivers would not go back.

  25. I also recognise that there is some tough challenges ahead I am committed to keeping taxes low as possible and keeping GST at 3% and get a better value for money for you as tax payers.

  26. The Comptroller and Auditor General has identified savings can be made - I commit to deliver these.

  27. States property for example - too many departments are operating out of too many sites - I am tough but fair; in my own department I have a proven track record of delivery

  28. As a Senator you represent the whole Island including St Mary’s.

  29. If you want a candidate who has worked hard for Jersey with leadershipability and a proven track record and gets things done please consider me for one of your votes.
